3 APPLES HIGHAlmost no on in the world knows who 3 Apples High is, unless maybe you're into the jam scene around Pittsburgh or something I guees. Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about. From Pitt comes this very cool electronic fusion group that has a unique electronic jam style, combining funky jazz, improv, house electronica, breakbeats, and more ... yes, electronica again! The jam electronica is good for chillin and working, and as background music even. What I like about 3 Apples High is how they often handle their transitions between tracks. Often they will progress the track all the way to a point of rest and pick it back up with the same amount of intensity that had just resolved. Even better is when you think you're finishing with little progression into a new track, and the theme and beat totally switch on you. Basically, they use a unique twist element with their transitions that I like, because it's more or less a surprise effect. You'll notice this as they have a specific beat going on and an obvious theme close, picked back up by a doubled or tripled beat that really pumps the rhythm. They can stop and start on a dime. Good stuff. Furthermore, the bass guitar (or whatever they're using there) talks. Acting as the standard bass fill roll, but also playing an important part as a congruous melodic feature to accompany the more standard boards on top. The bass voice is intelligent and speaks and answers. Again, good stuff. Here's some info I found out of the group written at least a year ago: "3 Apples High was formed in September of 2002 when Pittsburgh artist Justin Bechak collaborated with the Ignatius brothers sharing in the collective goal of a fresh new musical direction. Since then, the rapid evolution and development of the trio was transformed into a progressive classification all its own. The result: a body grooving head nodding audience response to this explosive trio’s ability to layer intrinsic ear-capturing melodies and smooth body shifting booty-capturing rhythms. 3AH has performed with acts including Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Victor Wooten, North Mississippi Allstars, Oteil Burbridge & the Peacemakers, Drums & Tuba, Harry Apes BMX, Big Wu, and Peter Prince." September 03, 2004 Washington Road / Mt. Lebanon, PA Comments: This recording is of high quality and is the best I have heard from this group, as there is little background noice and shows off their talent nicely. 3 Apples High, kickin some tale. Watch out for the duplicate tracks, which Archive.org does on live streams (one 64k, one VBR).
The album you see here is called Metrobotik which in itself is a fairly cool name. The group is 3 Apples High. Since you may not know who they are, you can check them buy listening to the left. Robert Walter's Super Heavy Organ |
