Birmingham News "Trooper is an outstanding wide receivers coach and has had a long line of players that have flourished under his direction . . . Taylor was recognized by Rivals.com as a Top 25 recruiter in 2005 and 2007 . . . Chizik and his coaches had a meeting Sunday evening to discuss recruiting, which enters a weeklong active period beginning today . . . The new Auburn coach on Sunday plucked Jay Boul ware from Iowa State to become the Tigers' new special teams czar . . . Luper, who arrived at Auburn on Sunday on the same plane as Taylor, said his priority was to "recruit, recruit, recruit . . . "Auburn has a wealth of history and tradition ... I can't wait to get started . . . The announcement, made official late Sunday afternoon, capped a busy day for Chizik, which began with him performing pickup duty at the Auburn/Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport for one coach already in the fold and another who could be on board as soon as today . . . Because of Chizik's background on defense, there's less urgency in hiring a defensive coordinator . . . Coleman said he was leaning toward leaving for the NFL in the days after Tommy Tuberville resigned early last month . . . Auburn confirmed the hiring in a news release this afternoon . . . After weighing his options for a few weeks, Coleman made his announcement at his alma mater, Williamson High School . . . Jay Boulware, who served as Chizik's running backs and special teams coach with the Cyclones, will become Auburn's new special teams coordinator . . . Coleman said the NFL advisory committee pegged him as a potential second- or third-round pick, but that news ultimately played no part in his decision . . . "I have talked to Coach Chizik and he's got a lot of ideas about what he's going to do at Auburn. I want to be a part of that," Coleman said, as reported by Inside the Auburn Tigers and AuburnSports.com Web sites . . . The Tigers jumped to a 14-0 lead on Stephen F. Austin (5-7) and were never in danger . . . "I'm really pleased finishing our non-conference season undefeated and taking that momentum to start the SEC season," said Auburn coach Nell Fortner . . . Korvotney Barber added 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Tigers won their seventh consecutive game . . . "It gives us a little bit of confidence going into conference play," said senior forward Korvotney Barber. "But I think we should be undefeated . . . Following 48 hours of speculation, the Bulldogs' assistant head coach turned down a reportedly lucrative offer from the Volunteers to join the staff of newly-hired head coach Lane Kiffin . . . Vanessa Dantin led the way by finishing 14th in prelims with a score of 253.95, while teammate Anna Aguero finished right behind her in 15th with a score of 252.35 . . . Tennessee has requested and received permission from Georgia to interview Bulldogs assistant football coach Rodney Garner for a position on the Vols' staff . . .
